These brilliant designs come from a collection of works by Francois Robert. He uses real bones to create captivating compositions that produce strong emotional responses given their startling make up. This is a great case where a designer uses physical objects rather than the tools of a computer to construct powerful designs.

The use of real human bones heightens the impact of the images because of how raw and discomforting we find the sight of real bones. Bones are symbols of death and morbidity which makes them a prefect tool for the context. Something like this could not have been accomplished solely by working through a computer because the realism of the bones is what drives the strong reaction. Creating an illustration through a computer could not possible carry the same eeriness as we can see here.

Here is a short film showing one of the last true crafts, large scale hand painted advertisements. The video documents the process and craftsmanship needed for such a massive project. It takes great talent to take an image the size of a regular piece of paper and transfer it to a wall of this size especially when considering their location. The result of their work is a beautiful and distinct advertisement far more compelling than its inexpensive alternative. The film explains how this unique practice has been over taken by the use of vinyl ads that are more time and cost efficient.

Only in cities like New York and Los Angles do we find these amazing ads as companies are reluctant on spending money on something that can be accomplished by a cheaper medium. Society has transitioned away from spending money on unique, handmade advertisements because technology allows for a more productive method. Our progression into a world where the public is exposed to hundreds of ads a day cannot appreciate something like hand painted ads when it will have to compete against millions of other adversaries.

This video shows a 3D model a designer made where the code alone dictates the appearance and behavior of the graphics. Although the designer coded the graphics to respond to music, the outcome is completely random resulting in some spectacular computer generated images uncontrolled by a human.

Below you can see the video where the image above came from. This is a scenario where someone has put in the energy and time into finding a way to make the computer perform on its own, but within the creators boundaries. Their is an issue, however, when something like this becomes easily accessible and over used, where the computer is relied on to create and the human takes himself ( or herself) of out the equation.
